Hemsedal is one of the top ski areas in Scandinavia offering some of the best alpine skiing Norway has to offer. The season starts mid-November and due to the stable climate generally lasts until the beginning of May.
Located halfway between Oslo and Bergen it is a 3 ½ hour coach ride from Oslo; or take the train from Oslo to Gol where you can switch for a 30-minute coach transfer on to Hemsedal.
Until 1961 when the first ski lift was built, Hemsedal’s main trade was agriculture. Up until 1980 the development was very conservative but since there has been significant growth in new hotels, restaurants, shops and not to forget a wide range of activities in addition to varied ski terrain with its 42 slopes and 19 lifts. .
